Todo mundo sabe que alcançar o topo na carreira de modelo é difícil, similar a se tornar um nome conhecido como DJ e produtor. E para fazer as duas coisas ao mesmo tempo? Miss Nine aparentemente alcançou o que é preciso para quebrar o teto de vidro da indústria da música eletrônica, em sua maioria dominada por homens e ainda manter sua aparições no circuito mundial da moda.
E rapidamente vieram apoios para a jovem alemã de alguns dos maiores pesos-pesados da indústria, principalmente quando Deep Dish assinou Miss Nine em sua agência de DJs Bullit Bookings, no ano de 2005.
Avançando 4 anos e você pode ver Miss Nine em turnê pelo mundo tocando seu mix de grandes pistas e house music, entre fotos em diversas revistas internacionais.
Cool Podcast conversou com ela por e-mail, enquanto esperamos pela sua apresentação no aniversário de 12 anos da Cool Magazine, no dia 3 de outubro de 2009.
Nós ouvimos que você está em turnê no momento. Como está sendo a tour?
A turnê está indo muito bem. Acabei de voltar da minha turnê na Ásia que foi surpreendente. Agora estou nos EUA, viajando da costa oeste para a costa leste. Eu amo isso! Além dos shows fantásticos, é sempre divertido para se encontrar com amigos que não podem vir aos clubs na Europa. No próximo mês estarei de volta no Brasil. Estou realmente ansiosa!
Como você manteve a agulha sem pular durante a gravação deste mix na estrada?
(risos) As vezes é apenas louco. Viajando, trabalhando no avião, depois de noites sem dormir pela diferenaça de fusos, etc. Na verdade, eu não posso viver sem meu laptop. É como ter uma irmã gêmea viajando ao seu lado. Desta vez eu tive muito pouco tempo para fazer este mix, pois tinha um monte de outros compromissos também. Mas de alguma forma eu fiz.
Eu tive alguns atrasos de viagens. É tão chato perder tempo no aeroporto e não fazer nada. Com um drink do Starbucks e alguns amendoins que estavam na minha bagagem, eu fiz este mix para vocês no banco de um aeroporto nos EUA.
O que te inspirou para criar esse mix? Conte-nos um pouco sobre isso…
Eu sempre tenho um top 9 todo mês (você pode verificar no
website). Certamente reconhecerá algumas dessas músicas no mix. Eu tiro inspiração do meu dia-a-dia, todas as viagens, as pessoas ao meu redor, a natureza e como eu gostaria de sentir/estar no momento. Quando estou presa no aeroporto, não estou em muito bom humor. Mas quando escuto uma faixa como a minha nova produção Lost and Found por exemplo, meu humor muda, eu estou em outro lugar. Vejo fotos diferentes na minha frente, pessoas dançando na praia com a minha música, um grande sorriso em seus rostos e curtindo a vida com um drink agradável embaixo de uma palmeira. Este mix é uma pequena jornada, viajando da costa oeste para leste.
O que está acontecendo em sua carreira neste momento, e na maior foto?
Na verdade, muitas coisas estão acontecendo. Eu não sei por onde começar!
A turnê está indo bem e falando em produção, acabei de lançar a track “Lost and Found” pelo label Black Hole Recordings. Além disso, estou lançando uma nova compilação para a Yoshitoshi Recordings e também assinando um novo talento no meu label 925 Digital. Durante o ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event) estarei apresentando o meu próprio evento chamado de “Miss Nine invites”. Será uma festa muito exclusiva em um barco. Por ultimo, mas não menos importante: durante a minha tour pela Ásia filmei uma campanha de verão para a marca australiana “Wish”. Essa campanha será veiculada em setembro e outubro.
Você fez tour recentemente na Austrália. Como o público se difere da América do Norte e do Brasil Você tem um destino favorito?
Foi a minha primeira viagem para a Austrália e eu adorei. Infelizmente eu tive a oportunidade de viajar por toda a Austrália ainda, mas estar na cidade de Sydney foi ótimo. As praias são muito agradáveis para o surf e relaxante. As pessoas lá gostam de festa também como em todas as partes neste planeta. O local em que toquei foi no prédio da MCA, localizado próximo ao porto. Local impressionante, tudo muito organizado.
Alguns dos meus locais favoritos são Nova York, Miami, Los Angeles, Tóquio e Brasil. Sempre gosto de voltar ao Brasil. Tenho tantas recordações agradáveis desse país. Tocar em clubs como Warung, Sirena e Anzu faz um DJ feliz. O público, os locais onde os clubs estão localizados, a vibe, a comida – tudo junto faz os lugares fantásticos!
As indústrias da moda e música têm algumas semelhanças notáveis. Quando você está trabalhando como modelo, há coisas que você sente falta da indústria da música e vice-versa?
Sim, quando você está trabalando como modelo não tem o público em sua frente dançando e toda aquela energia. Em vez do público, você tem um cliente e alguns assistentes que olham para você e tomam cuidado para que as roupas fiquem perfeitas na frente de uma câmera. A câmera é o seu melhor amigo, não o público. É muito diferente. Eu costumo perguntar se posso trazer a minha própria música, pois assim fico com a energia dela durante os cliques.
Quem é responsável por dar-lhe a sua maior quebra em sua carreira? Porque você acha que eles fizeram isso?
Ufa, esta é uma pergunta difícil…
Quero dizer, sem meus pais eu não estaria na Terra. Sem a permissão da minha mãe eu não seria capaz de viver em Amsterdam. Sem o melhor amigo do meu namorado, eu não o teria conhecido. Sem o meu namorado eu não faria o que estou fazendo agora.
Portanto, há algumas pessoas que são muito importantes na minha vida.
Mas o responsável pelo avanço no mundo da música, eu diria que foi o Deep Dish. Eles levaram-me debaixo de suas asas 3 anos atrás e me apresentaram para o mundo. Atualmente faço tudo como meu próprio esforço juntamente com meu manager. Então, basicamente há um monte de gente responsável pela minha carreira.

Everybody knows that breaking into the top flight modelling game is tough, similarly to become a household name as a dj and producer. But to do both, on the bounce, back to back? Miss Nine has seemingly got what it takes to smash the glass ceiling of the male dominated electronic music industry and still keep up her appearances on the world modelling circuit.
Support has come thick and fast for the young German from some of the industries biggest heavyweights, mainly when Deep Dish signed Miss Nine to their DJ agency Bullit Bookings back in 2005.
Fast forward 4 years and you can catch Miss Nine touring the globe playing her mix of big room progressing and house music in between photo shoots of many an international magazine and designer.
Cool Podcast caught up with her via email as we wait in vain to see her playing at the Cool Magazine 12th Anniversary Party in Sao Paolo, Brazil on the 3rd October 2009.
So, we hear you are on tour at the moment. How is that going?
The tour is going great so fare. I just got back from my Asia tour which was amazing. Now I’m in the US traveling from West coast to East Coast. I love it! Besides the fantastic gigs, it’s always fun to meet up with friends who can’t come to the venues in Europe. Next month I’m back in Brazil. I’m really looking forward to it.
How did you keep the needle from jumping while recording this mix on the road?
Hahaha… sometimes it’s just crazy… traveling, working on the airplane, having sleepless nights of being jetlagged… etc. Actually, I can’t live without my laptop. It’s like having a twin sister traveling next to you. This time I had very little time to do this mix as I had a lot of other deadlines too. But in some way I made it.
I did have a few delays with travelling. It’s so boring spending the time at the airport and doing nothing. With a drink from Starbucks and some peanuts left in my luggage I made this one for you guys on a bench in an airport in the US.
Was there anything that inspired you to create this mix? Tell us a bit about it…
I always have a top 9 every month (you can check this on my
website). You definitely will recognize some of those tunes in the mix. I get inspired by my day life, all the traveling, the people around me, nature, and how I would like to feel/be at the moment. When I’m stuck at an airport I’m not in a very good mood (understatement). But when I play a track like my new one Lost And Found for example, my mood changes, I’m somewhere else. I see different pictures in front of me. People on the beach dancing to my music with a big smile on their face and enjoying life with a nice drink under a palm tree. This mix is a little journey traveling from West to East coast.
What is happening in your career right now, and in the bigger picture?
Actually lots of things are happening. I don’t know where to start.
The touring is going well. Production wise I just released “Lost And Found” on Black Hole Recordings. Besides that I’m coming up with a new compilation for Yoshitoshi Recordings. I’m also signing new Talent on my label 925 Digital. During ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event) I will be hosting my own event called “Miss Nine invites”. It’s going to be a very exclusive party on a boat. And last but not least: During my Asia tour I was shooting a summer campaign for the Australian fashion brand “WISH”. That campaign will be running in September and October.
You recently toured Australia. How do the crowds differ there from in North America, and in Brazil? Do you have a favourite destination?
It was my first time traveling to Australia and I loved it. Unfortunately I haven’t travelled all over Australia yet. But the city Sydney was great. The beaches are very nice for surfing and relaxing. People over there like to party too like everywhere on this planet. The venue I played in was in the MCA building located near the harbor. Amazing location, everything well organized.
Some of my favorite locations are New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Brazil.
I always love to return back to Brazil. I have so many nice memories of that country. Playing in clubs like Warung, Sirena and Anzu makes a DJ happy. The crowd, the locations where the clubs are located, the vibe, the food: everything together makes the places fantastic
The modelling and music industries have some notable similarities. When modelling, are there things you miss about the music industry, and vice versa?
Yes, when modeling you do not have the crowd in front of you that gives you the energy. Instead of a crowd you have a client and some assistants who look at you and taking care that the clothes look perfect on you in front of a camera. The camera is your best friend, not the crowd. It’s very different. I usually ask if it is ok to bring my own music, so I get energy from the music during a shoot.
Who is responsible for giving you your biggest break in your career? Why do you think they did it?
Phew this is a difficult question…
I mean without my parents I wouldn’t be on earth. Without my mom’s allowance I wouldn’t be able to life in Amsterdam. Without the best friend of my boyfriend I wouldn’t have meet him. Without my boyfriend I wouldn’t do what I’m doing now.
So there are a few people who are very important in my life.
But responsible for the breakthrough in the music world I would say that this was Deep Dish. They took me under their wings 3 years ago and introduced me to the world. These days I do everything by my own together with my management. So basically there are a lot of people responsible for my career.
